Native Irish sycamore is used in these flat backed mandolins and cedarwood or spruce for soundboard. The neck can be either sycamore, walnut or cherry. Even though the instrument is shallow it has a very big sound, the accurate fretting and easy action on the neck allow all styles of playing. The size of the instrument belies the fact that forty five hours of work are involved to finish it . Any other woods can be used at the request of the costumer. I also do a larger version with a 450 mm string length, sometimes called a mandola or mando cello. The normal four course stringing can be increased to five or six pairs.
